September 2015 Update:

The Future Scientists Program is funded through a partnership with the School District of Philadelphia's West Philadelphia "GEAR UP" program.  The program provides academic services for seventh and eight grade students in "GEAR-UP" schools in West Philadelphia.  To date, for the 2015-2016 academic year, implementation is contingent upon the appropriation of "GEAR-UP" funds that will cover transportation, personnel, and instructional materials.  Funding is pending; consequently, program implementation is on hold.

December 2015 Update:

The Future Scientists Funding proposal was rejected.

Program implementation is hereby canceled.

Thank you for your interest.

The Future Scientists (FS) program is a middle level (7th and 8th grade) environmental enrichment STEM-based (Science,Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education program.Future Scientists participants are academically talented students in 7th and/or 8th grade.   The major purpose of Future Scientists is to cultivate and nurture an interest in science.  To this end, Future Scientists emphasizes the key knowledge and skills all students need in order to be prepared as workers, consumers, and citizens of the 21st century.

HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE
Mrs. Carole Williams-Green, Founder of the Cobbs Creek Community Environmental Education Center, began the Future Scientists program as a pilot in 2011 at the Anderson Elementary School in Southwest Philadelphia.  Fourteen seventh and eighth grade students from Anderson participated in the pilot for two years.  After two years, the program expanded to four schools.
In 2014, Future Scientists had hoped to host a STEM project-based learning environment and energy education program in ten schools.  The Cobbs Creek Community Environmental Education Center would have been happy to have these ten schools as partners to nurture and educate students interested in science as a pathway to a career.
